THE ELECTRIC METATE

The Electric Metate is an electric appliance I designed to modernize the process of using the traditional Metate. Creating this appliance was a part of an exercise in which we were tasked to create a product for an imagined modern Aztec society if the land was never conquered by the Spaniards. SKETCH ITERATIONS

Here you will find some sketch ideas I had for everyday products within the imagined modern Aztec society.

This included luxury handbags, hair accessories, and cooking appliances.

SETTING THE SCENE

To better imagine the modern Aztec culture I wanted to set the scene by defining some key points in the history if they were never conquered. I imagined the Aztecs were a world power for their abundant resources and ability to fight when it was necessary.

The modern society also held true to its family values and culinary traditions. Farming in the modern society is sustainable but still on an industrial scale because of the nations exports.

Class systems are still relatively in place but are similar in structure to how the middle class in the Americas grew closer to the upper class as technology and industrialization increased.
