THE SHOES V3

This is my third exploration on a platform shoe, and learning more about the shoe making process in general. I created a calfskin leather pair of boots with individually sewn panels on the outside. It is sewn onto a custom bent laminated panel of plywood. The laminations are screwed to the carved platforms, and heels sculpted from cherry wood.

SKETCH AND CONSTRUCTION

The top left picture is my initial sketch.

To its right shows how the cherry wood platform was built up. Layers of cherrywood blocks were glued together and cut on the bandsaw to be sanded after for finishing.

The upper boot is made of a black calfskin leather, and is made to a size seven in women’s. All of the leather paneling is cement glued into place and topstitched over onto the base of the boot. I lastly sewed a black zipper along the back heel for an easy slip in boot.

THE MAGNETIC SHOES V2

I created a pair of platform shoes that is inspired by the repulsion of magnetic forces. This was an idea to alter the typical mundane way of walking by adding a little bounce. Uppers are recycled and are cemented onto the custom platforms made from cherry wood and clear PVC.

This was my initial sketch idea, a process photo of the creation of the platforms, and a test shoe created with PVC and magnets

THE ORIGINAL SHOES V1

I was tasked with creating a pair of shoes using paper or wood and took a geometrical approach to creating a more rounded form.
