THE BEETLE

THE BEETLE

This is a beetle that inspired a couple explorations in wearable garments. I created a pair of pants that plays with texture, and a set of wearable armor shoulder plates and chest plate meant to mimic the beetle.

THE BEETLE PANTS

I explored the use of lino-block printing to created a repeated pattern of the beetle’s shell. All panels were sewn on by machine. This was an experiment with creating three dimensional texture in a garment that feels organic.

SKETCH AND PROCESS

This is the original lino-block cut pattern I carved, and the initial sketch I had for the beetle pants.

THE BEETLE ARMOR

I created this set of armor inspired by the beetles outer shell. This is made of thick vellum, thin cardboard and ribbons to fasten onto the body as shown in the following photos of me wearing it.
